Notes
Notes are files that you edit in the browser. Notes are the “source of truth” for long-term knowledge.
Supported formats
Notes are identified by their file extension:
.arms → Markdown + ARMS tags
.md → Markdown + ARMS tags
.tex → LaTeX + ARMS tags
You choose the format when creating a note, and the editor will use a matching mode.
Create a note
- Go to
/notes
- Click New note
- Choose a format in Options
- Choose a path (relative), like
topic/subtopic/my-note.arms
- Write your content and save
Generate cards from a note
From the note view or edit page, click Generate preview.
You’ll see:
- the list of cards found in the note
- each card’s UUID (existing cards will show “will update”)
- a “Confirm generation” form
Deck destination options
When confirming generation you can choose:
- do not add to any deck (default)
- add to an existing deck
- create a new deck for these cards
What “Confirm generation” does
When you confirm:
- The server validates that the note hasn’t changed since you opened preview (to avoid generating from stale content).
- Missing card UUIDs are inserted into the note file so identity persists.
- Cards are upserted into the database by UUID.
- Optionally, cards are linked into a deck.
Deleting notes
Notes can be deleted from the note view page (in “Note options”).
Deleting a note:
- removes the note file
- does not delete generated cards or study history
If you delete the note but later re-create a note that contains cards with the same UUIDs, those cards can be updated again.
